AUSTIN, TEXAS – Google’s self-driving cars aren’t immune to crashes, but for the first time, it was responsible for colliding with a bus last month after it misjudged the situation on the road.
Speaking at 2016 South by Southwest Interactive, Chris Urmson, director of the Google self-driving car project, detailed how the company has been learning from the incident to ensure crashes like this can be avoided in the future.

“It was a tough day for us. We don’t like our cars bumping into things,” Urmson told attendees. “In the 1.4 million miles we’ve done, it hadn’t happened before, but we learned a lot from it. We did [a lot] of tests to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Read more…
