LAS VEGAS — “CES might as well stand for ‘car electronics show,” one of the Audi technology chiefs joked during a roundtable this week at the 2016 International CES. “The entire North Hall was nothing but cars.”
Although he’s right, and the significance of the automotive dominance at this year’s show should not be downplayed, perhaps more telling for me was what exactly the carmakers had on display in Vegas: electric powertrains and self-driving tech.

I mean, look at what made headlines this week: Chevrolet Bolt, Faraday Future FFZERO1, BMW i Vision Future Interaction, Volkswagen BUDD-e and Kia’s DRIVE-WISE autonomous sub-brand.
